AnthroJobs of the Week, 12 March 2019

Are there really any jobs out there for those holding a bachelor’s degree in anthropology? In a word, yup. A search today shows job listings requiring a BA/BS in anthropology for the following outfits in various parts of the U.S., some of which are fairly well known:

User Experience Research, Google, San Bruno, CA

Qualitative Analyst, Market Strategies International, Inc., Cambridge, MA

Archaeological Field Technician, PaleoWest Archaeology, Phoenix, AZ

Design Strategist, Booz Allen Hamilton, Washington, DC

Behavioral Researcher I, Center for Advanced Hindsight, Durham, NC

I don’t know if that last workplace is real, but if it is, it sounds like an interesting place to work. The main point is that not all job postings call for an advanced degree in anthropology. The catch, natch, is that many of these jobs do list various other types of preferred skills and experiences to supplement the degree. Maybe you got it, maybe you don’t. But it is worth checking into.

And if you are still a year or two away from receiving your degree, great! Look into the requirements for these current jobs and try to take classes that better match the employment market, or land an internship that will provide a relevant exposure to the requirements.

Good luck and keep living the dream!
