AnthroJobs of the Week, 23 January 2018

This week I want to focus on anthropology jobs that can take you abroad. Recently, in my personal job search, I have been reaching out and speaking with international development professionals. They have offered me lots of meaningful advice in finding a job. Every person I have spoken with suggests: Go work in another country, and learn another culture and language. Even if you already know another language and have already lived in another country, adding a different experience abroad will allow you to progress further in your career. This may be advice specific to those wanting to work in International Development, but nonetheless some of you may be looking for an experience in another country. I found a couple of different opportunities for this week:

The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict is looking for a Junior Network Team Assistant. The GPPAC is an NGO that promotes conflict prevention and peacebuilding strategies and works to shift the conflict conversation from reaction to prevention. The job is located in the Netherlands. The ideal candidate has a Masters degree in Anthropology, is fluent in English and knows a second language, specifically Russian or Arabic.

The Moroccan NGO Dar Si Hmad is looking for an Ethnographic Field School Manager. The position is based in Agadir, Morocco with regular domestic and international travel. The Manager would manage the planning, communication, advertising, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the field school. The ideal candidate has a Bachelors (Masters preferred) in Anthropology and has experience studying abroad. The Manager will need to be able to speak French or Moroccan Arabic.

The next two posts were in Spanish, which is a language I have not mastered. For Spanish speakers, here are two exciting opportunities in Mexico and Argentina:

The Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad is looking for an Investigador/a. The researcher position is in Mexico and the candidate needs to be able to speak Spanish with at least and bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. My Spanish limits me in providing a further explanation.

The Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) is seeking a Fundraising Coordinator which can be based in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, or New York. EAAF works to apply forensic science to cases of human rights violations. They support the advancement of human rights throughout Latin America. This position also requires fluency in Spanish.

The application due date for the majority of these positions is January 31st. I would start applying ASAP. Good luck and it is ok to wanderlust after jobs.
