Adam Koons has been an anthropologist practitioner for 30 years, specializing in international development and humanitarian assistance.  He has worked on a variety of United States government, United Nations, consulting, and NGO assignments, primarily overseas. Adam has lived in Cameroon, Niger, Sudan, Haiti, and Kenya, and worked in over 35 countries. He has served in a wide range of positions, including field officer, monitoring and evaluation analyst, project manager, strategic advisor, country director, regional coordinator, disaster response team leader, emergency department director, and currently senior vice president, working in sectors such as food security and agriculture, water, sanitation, and hygiene, infrastructure, and microfinance. Adam continues to travel extensively in order to assess and interact directly with staff, partner, and communities.

Born in New York City, Adam’s career initially focused on professional photography, and he held a number of commercial and journalistic assignments. He received his undergraduate degree in cultural anthropology from Beloit College in Wisconsin, and his PhD in Applied Anthropology, with a focus on gender, micro-economics and food security systems, from American University in Washington, DC.
