Governing Council Today: Nancy Gillis: The Fine Line Between Building Rapport and Maintaining Neutrality

As I write this blog post, I am not sure if there is an answer to this conundrum.

I am currently conducting fieldwork for the North Texas Food Bank. They have developed The Hunger Center, a think tank for understanding food insecurity and poverty while developing innovative strategies to combat the root causes of the issues.

Praxis Award Submissions Due Soon

The deadline for entries for the 2013 WAPA Praxis Award is fast approaching: July 1, 2013. Applications will not be accepted after that date.

 

For over three decades, the biennial Praxis Award has recognized outstanding achievement in translating anthropological knowledge into action as reflected in a single project or specific, long-term endeavor. Submissions should clearly demonstrate how the applicant used anthropology to effectively address contemporary human problems. This is not a career or lifetime achievement award, but one that recognizes the value of applying anthropology to everyday problems and issues.

The Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) invites abstracts (sessions, papers and posters) for the Program of the 74th Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, NM, March 18-22, 2014.  The theme of the Program is “Destinations.”

Deadline for AAA Elections is May 31

Dear NAPA Members:

 

As you know, the deadline for the AAA elections is coming up soon: May 31st is just a bit over two weeks away. You should also know that several NAPA members, including three past presidents, are up for AAA offices; the latter are Elizabeth Briody (Executive Board), Robert Trotter (Ethics) and Tim Wallace (Public Policy). Another current NAPA leader, Setish Kedia (Annals co-editor) is also running (Minority Issues). These positions are in addition to the NAPA section elections.
