JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant to the President of The Chijnaya Foundation

Location: Palm Springs, California
Description:
The Chijnaya Foundation is in the process of moving from an organization run by the volunteer founders to one that has a small professional staff to take over responsibility for performing many of the tasks currently carried out by the volunteer president. This is the first step in the transition toward a sustainable nonprofit foundation capable of continuing to cooperate with communities in southern Peru on projects aimed at improving the quality of life for indigenous families on the Altiplano. For the right person who is successful in growing the organization, this job may evolve into a position of Executive Director of the Foundation. During the first year, it will be possible to consider a part-time or full-time position on a contract basis to work out of the Foundation’s office in Palm Springs, California.

Qualifications: Required
• Fluency in Spanish and English
• Experience with other nonprofits, the Peace Corps or other relevant organizations
• Ability to travel to Peru for short periods to become familiar with the foundation’s work
• Social media skills and ability to do online fundraising campaigns
• Ability to search for potential donors and solicit donations
• Ability to write grants for funding from private and public sources
• Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other basic computer programs
• Excellent writing and communications skills
• Ability to organize fundraising events
• Ability to manage the Foundation’s website

Qualifications: Desirable
• Degree or coursework in nonprofit management
• Experience in fundraising and grant writing
• Experience working for a nonprofit, especially in international philanthropy
• Knowledge of Latin America, specifically Peru
• Involvement as a volunteer, as for example in the Peace Corps

Responsibilities
• Conduct research on grant sources for programs in health, education & economic development
• Prepare grant applications and write grant reports
• Serve as liaison with the Foundation’s counterpart organization in Peru
• Maintain current the website of the Foundation
• Prepare donation solicitations two times per year, both email and snail mail
• Organize the files of the Foundation
• Contact potential donors and solicit donations
• Prepare crowdfunding and other social media campaigns
• Support the President with other tasks as needed
• Establish contacts with potential donors in diverse communities of interest
a. Peruvian Communities in the US and Europe
b. Professional organizations focused on types of activities engaged in by the Foundation
c. Peruvian-American professional organizations: e.g., dentists, doctors, lawyers
d. Returned volunteers who have worked in Peru or the Andes
• Prepare the necessary documents for the annual meeting of the Board of Directors
• Report on progress of work on a regular basis to the Board of Directors
