Assistant or Associate Professor of Anthropology (Tenure-Track/Tenured)

The Department of Anthropology at Wayne State University announces a full-time, tenure-track/tenured position for an individual who can contribute to the department’s internationally recognized specialization in the anthropology of business and organizational anthropology, beginning Fall semester, 2011. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications (Ph.D. in Anthropology or related field required). We seek applicants working in the anthropology of contemporary institutions, and the use of anthropological concepts and methods for a wide variety of practical challenges. These challenges include designing products for culturally diverse contexts, improving work relationships in a variety of institutions, solving problems of technology implementation, creating information architectures, analyzing the effectiveness of development programs around the world, improving inter-organizational relationships in public-private ventures, and improving urban institutions. Applications will be welcomed from people with a wide range of backgrounds and specialties including contemporary organizations, finance, economic anthropology, political anthropology, or work and labor.

We welcome innovative and creative syntheses as well as research plans that will take advantage of the opportunities presented by Detroit and Southeastern Michigan’s location at the center of post-industrial change, and contribute to the strategic vision and goals of this specialty. A record of peer-reviewed publications, external funding, and excellence in teaching is essential. The successful applicant will teach two courses a semester and will be responsible for recruiting and mentoring graduate students. Minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
